Presidents secretary on legal affairs and anti-corruption has been detained

The President's secretary on legal affairs and anti-corruption Plamen Uzunov has been detained near the South Bulgarian city of Plovdiv on July 9.

Uzunov will be taken to the 9th regional police station in Sofia. According to BNT sources, it is possible that he will be brought to the presidency building, where his office will be searched in his presence.

The Prosecutor's office is investigating him for trading in influence because of an SMS chat communication with the accused. businessman Plamen Bobokov, recently charged in relation to illegal importing and processing of waste.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, on December 28, 2018, he sent a court decision, which had not yet been signed by the judges of the Supreme Administrative Court to the businessman Plamen Bobokov. The court decision concerned the release of the BADR ship, which was detained at Bulgarian port of Bourgas.

On July 3, Uzunov was questioned by the National Investigation Service, where investigators asked him to voluntarily provide the passwords for phones confiscated from him.

According to the prosecution, the experts have established that when Uzunov handed over his phones he provided incorrect passwords. The state prosecution even said that there were even suspicions that one of the devices had been intentionally damaged so that its memory could not be accessed.

Earlier today, the State Agency for National Security (SANS) announced that they had taken away access to classified information of P.U., as well as a person with the initials I.M.

"The persons are senior officials in the Administration of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria," the agency commented.

Businessman Plamen Bobokov, was again taken today into 24 hours custody.

He will probably be charged for trading in influence because of his chat correspondence with presidential adviser Plamen Uzunov.

The SMS chats between them were found in a telephone of Bobokov, who was arrested at that time but released on BGN 1,000,000 bail.
