Excavation of buried illegal waste near Cherven Bryag continues

Actions are ongoing on the investigation and identifying the location of pits, serving for illegal storage of waste, which by external appearance can be described as hazardous, on the territory of the lands in Cherven Bryag and the village of Ruptsi, district Pleven, the Specialized Prosecutor's Office announced on July 8.

The work of the teams is carried out in connection with the pre-trial proceedings, in which businessmen Atanas Bobokov, Plamen Bobokov, as well as officials are defendants.

Earlier this month, it became clear that there was more than 120 tonnes of illegally buried waste in the area, some of which included batteries imported from Slovakia and Romania.

At the time, the Specialised Prosecutor's Office commented that a third place was found with pits, which were used for storage of illegal waste.

The area is guarded and actions are due to establish the origin of the waste.

A check conducted by the Specialised Prosecutor's Office discovered hazardous waste dumped near Cherven Bryag, Northern Bulgaria, the Specialised Prosecutor's Office said on July 1. The check was part of an investigation against a suspected criminal group involved in illegal waste import and processing.

The Specialised Prosecutor’s Office said that the investigation established that part of the waste generated by a company owned by brothers Bobokovi was buried in silage and other pits in the land-use area of the town of Cherven Bryag and the village of Ruptsi.
