Withdrawal of Driving Licenses and 1,000 BGN Fine for Driving on Emergency Lanes

The Bulgarian Parliament adopted on 14th of September, at second reading, changes to the Road Traffic Act. The proposal for the changes was made by Georgi Svilenski and MPs from the parliamentary group of the Socialist Party (BSP).

A total of 133 MPs voted in favour and only one voted against. The proposal was made by Georgi Svilenski and MPs from the parliamentary group of the Socialist Party (BSP).

The Parliament decided that the drivers will pay a fine of 1000 BGN for driving in the emergency lane on motorways and their driving licenses will be withdrawn for three months.

The adopted amendments also require drivers to vacate tram tracks as quickly as possible if the tram is approaching. It was adopted that public transport buses would be allowed to move on the tram tracks.

Also, it is forbidden to drive under the influence of a blood alcohol level higher than 0.5 percent, or after use of narcotic substances.
