Traffic at Kulata border crossing with Greece was intense, but eased about 6 pm

The traffic at the only border crossing for holidaymakers to Greece, Kulata- Promachonas, was intense earlier on July 6. The queue of vehicles in the morning was about 10 km long and stretched to the turnoff towards the village of Katuntsi on the Struma motorway.

Police patrols stoped and grouped the cars in different places on the Struma motorway. Most of the travellers tried to reach the border crossing by choosing routes through the surrounding villages, but the patrols returned them to line up at the end of the queue and wait for their turn.

Unlike the situation during the day, at 18.00 pm, the situation the checkpoint is normal and there was no line of waiting cars.

According to a decision of the Greek authorities, Kulata-Promachonas was designated as the only point of entry into Greece at the border with Bulgaria for tourists as of July 1.

Traffic had been intense during the weekend too.

This morning, the situation at Makaza checkpoint was calm, there is no car traffic, after the Greek authorities limited the entry of tourists to Kulata-Promachonas only. Exceptions will be allowed for property owners in Greece. In order to enter the country through Makaza, they will have to present a title deed or a notary deed. Seasonal workers will be able to pass through the border checkpoints "Kapitan Petko Voyvoda" and "Ivaylovgrad" after presenting an employment contract.

Greece has started re-opening to international traffic, but introduced a requirement for all foreign arrivals to complete compulsory passenger location forms as of July 1.

Travellers are required to complete the forms at least 48 hours before entering the country, providing detailed information on their point of departure, the duration of previous stays in other countries, and the address of their stay while in Greece.
