The body of the second victim of the flooded districts in the North Western Bulgarian town of Mizia was found on 5th of August. The victim is a 55 year old man, who lived alone in his house, confirmed Ivan Kirilov, Director of the Regional Police Directorate in the town of Vratsa.
On 5th of August, the water of the river Skut continues to recede and some houses can be accessed, but there is a risk of collapsing as it is possible the foundations to have been damaged by the flood water.
Measures have been taken to prevent the outbreak of epidemic diseases in Mizia and the other flooded villages in the region of Vratsa.
Three lorries in Mizia provide emergency water supply for public use. Chemical toilets have been installed. The regional healthcare inspection advised that the residents should drink only bottled water. The local municipality has arranged the transportation of the drowned animals’ bodies to incinerators.
Scores of citizens and businesses from Vratsa initiated collection of donations to help the flood affected people. Every day, several mini-buses travel to the flooded town and deliver safe drinking water, bread and food products for those in need. Along with the donation campaign, volunteers, among which are builders, medical workers and psychologists, register in the regional office of the Bulgarian Red Cross in Vratsa to assist in the flood recovery activities.
