Stoltenberg: Bulgaria proposes deployment of NATO Coordination Centre in Varna

The establishment of NATO Naval Coordination Centre in Bulgaria’s coastal city of Varna was discussed on December 12 by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. The two met at the Alliance's headquarters in Brussels.

Stoltenberg said that this coordination centre is currently located in the UK, but NATO appreciates the fact that Bulgaria is focusing on security in the Black Sea and is ready to host it.

Borissov commented that the role of this centre will be deterrent. According to him, the dialogue with Russia remained very important and our country is working for Belene NPP and Balkan Stream.

Stoltenberg praised Bulgaria for spending more than 3% of its GDP on defence expenses.

Prime Minister Borissov remains in Brussels, where he will participate in the EU Summit on Climate Change and the Union's multiannual budget.
