Rise of Covid-19 cases in Plovdiv - infected footballers, fans, school graduates

Three football players of Lokomotiv - Plovdiv have symptoms of coronavirus. They have self-isolated in their homes. This morning PCR tests were conducted on all players and club employees, the results are expected. Certainly, however, four of the fans who were in the cup final match of the team with CSKA on July 1 in Sofia, tested positive for coronavirus. The number of high school graduates with a confirmed infection is also increasing.

The three Lokomotiv players with symptoms of COVID-19 are goalkeeper Ilko Pirgov, Binsent Karageren and Kenan Muslimuvich.

In several consecutive days, new cases were reported of infected people, which were a week ago in one of the nightclubs in the city. The club is already closed. The number exceeds 10 people.

The cases of high school graduates in Plovdiv with positive test results are also growing.

All this prompted the director of the police, senior commissioner Yordan Rogachev, to appeal to the mayors of municipalities to limit the mass gatherings as much as possible.

For the last 24 hours, according to the information system in Plovdiv region, the patients with Covid-19 are 25, among them a 40-day-old baby who was in contact with his grandmother.

Until the beginning of this week, only the Infectious Diseases Clinic in St. George received patients with coronavirus, and to date there are five hospitals, due to the depletion of beds in the University Hospital. There is also a shortage of nurses and orderlies.

The Municipality of Plovdiv announced that according to them there is no evidence of an increase in morbidity and they do not see anything disturbing. According to the chairman of the municipal task force, Dr. Kalin Kalinov, mass events in the city will not be stopped, but strict compliance with the requirement for 50% occupancy and physical distance will be monitored.

The mass gatherings related to the graduation balls and the celebration of Lokomotiv's victory in the Bulgarian Cup Final are already giving alarming results. A 15-year-old girl and three men between the ages of 19 and 38, fans of the team who were at the final match in Sofia, are among the cases in today's statistics of COVID-19 cases. All players and employees of the club were tested with PCR this morning. Three of the players are isolated due to symptoms.
