Prices of bread in Plovdiv went up by almost 25%

The prices of bread in Bulgaria’s second largest city of Plovdiv and in the town of Pazardzhik went up by approximately 25%. According to breadmakers, the reason for the increase is higher purchase prices of wheat, more expensive electricity and gas.

In Plovdiv, the price of the most popular bread has risen by about 30%, BNT check in the retail chains showed. White bread now costs 1.10 BGN, while about ten days ago it cost 0.88 BGN. Consumers already feel the pinch of the price hike and claim this will affect the family budget.

Some of the small bakeries have also increased the prices, others are planning to do so.

In bread making places, the price of white and brown bread is currently BGN 1, but they also predict that they will soon go up by 0.50 BGN.

Angelina Dimitrova, shop assistant in a bakery: There is certainly an increase in prices of flour and I guess that the increase in electricity price this year will certainly affect the price of bread.

The price of dietetic breads and pastries will also go up. Consumers already worry that in addition to bread, the prices of other food products will also rise.
