POLLS ON THE OUTCOME OF THE EUROPEAN ELECTIONS

Nearly 50 days ahead of the elections to the European Parliament, the circle of candidates standing for MEPs seats in the European Parliament is already outlined. The findings of a public opinion poll carried out by AFIS agency show that the leftwing Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), the rightwing GERB and the centrist liberal Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) would be the three parties to secure at least 14 of the total 17 MEP seats allocated to Bulgaria.

The survey was made between 31 March and 7 April and the data was collected from 1050 Bulgarians over the age of 18.

According to the results, based on close-ended questions, in which the respondents had to choose from the names of the parties and their leaders, the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) would receive 23% of the votes in the European elections, GERB – 21% and DPS – 5,1%. Other three parties show potential to pass the threshold of 5,88% and to secure a seat, the poll shows: ‘Bulgaria without Censorship’ with 5,7%, ABV – 4,4% and Ataka – 3,5%.

The survey also indicates that the ‘Reformist Bloc’ and the ‘National Front for the Salvation of Bulgaria’ (NFSB) do not stand chances of winning the European elections, but have the potential to compete in the next parliamentary elections.

The level of dissatisfaction with the current government has dropped down, the poll shows, and there is a slight increase in the trust in the activities of the ministers and the cabinet as a whole.
