Borissov and Tsipras open the construction of gas connection Bulgaria-Greece

The construction of the gas interconnection between Bulgaria and Greece begins. The start of the construction will be given by the Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and his Greek counterpart, Alexis Tsipras. The gas connection is 182 km long, of which 150 km are on Bulgarian territory.

The Prime Ministers of Bulgaria and Greece - Boyko Borissov and Alexis Tsipras will hold a one-to-one meeting, after which they will turn the first sod at the start of the construction of the gas pipeline. Actual construction is expected to begin at the earliest in June or July and the first deliveries should be in September or October.

Gas pipeline construction was delayed by about 10 years. It was originally scheduled to begin in 2009 and 2013 to be completed.

The gas link with Greece is the main alternative to gas supplies other than Russian gas currently coming to Bulgaria. It will connect our country with the Trans-Anatolian and Trans Adriatic Pipeline from which we can obtain Azeri gas.
