PM and Chief Prosecutor met with Mayor of Pernik over the water restrictions

Bulgaria’s Chief Prosecutor initiated a check in relation to the water supply crisis in Pernik. The Mayor Stanislav Vladimirov was invited to the office of the Chief Prosecutor for a meeting on November 22. He also met with Prime Minister Boyko Borisсov this morning. The government is committed to allocating BGN 2.7 million for purification station.

Further BGN 2.7 million were allocated by the government for urgent repairs of the precipitators at the Pernik wastewater treatment plant in order to improve the quality of drinking water.

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov has also pledged to provide emergency teams in the city.

The Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov assured the mayor that the activity of the water supply and sewerage company would be checked as a matter of urgency and whether the water crisis could have been avoided.

Water restrictions were introduced in Bulgaria’s Pernik municipality starting on November 18. In the next months, residents will have running water for 10 hours a day. Water supply will be available between 5 am and 10 am in the morning and 5 pm to 10 pm in the evening.

About 60,000 people will be affected by the water supply restrictions. Residents of the town of Batanovtsi and 9 villages in the region will also be affected.
