Approximately 75,500 students will start school for the first time.
As part of the tradition, the beginning of the new school year is marked with the ceremonial bell-ringing, children bringing flowers to teachers and festivities.
In the school year 2017/2018, 55 newly united schools will operate in 39 municipalities from 20 districts on the territory of the country. United Schools are a new type of school that will teach students up to the tenth grade. Innovative schools, which are also a new type of school, are defined by a decision of the Council of Ministers dated 17 July 2017 and are 184across the country.
According to data from the Regional Education Offices from the beginning of the year to 5th of September, 862 basic and ongoing repairs were carried out in 71 state and 659 municipal schools in the country. It is expected that 26 repairs will continue after the beginning of the school year, but they will not interfere with the learning process, the Ministry of Education assured.
The Minister of Education and Science Krassimir Vulchev; the Regional Governor of the city of Vratsa Malina Nikolova (North-West of Bulgaria); the Mayor of Vratsa Kalin Kamenov and the Head of “Sofronii Vrachanski” school Antoaneta Sirakova opened the renovated building of the school.
The funds for the renovation were allocated by the Ministry under a project of the Municipality "Implementing Measures for Increasing Energy Efficiency". The children gave a book with the history of the school to Minister Vulchev and showed him a copy of "Slavonic-Bulgarian History", made by 100 students of the school on the occasion of its 100th anniversary.
