New ID cards will have a chip with biometrics, electronic signature and identity

The new ID cards will contain a biometric chip, electronic identity and electronic signature. Temporary ID cards are also being introduced for those who are forbidden to leave the country. Issuance of new personal documents should begin in the beginning of 2020 when most of the current ID cards expire.

Fees for isssiung new personal documents are expected to be the same as they are now. There will only be a change in the period for issuing the card. Because of the centralized design - instead of the current 8 hours - the express service will take 12 to 24 hours. The deadlines for fast issiung of IDs - 3 working days - and for standard isuuing of IDs - 30-day period - are kept.

It is also expected that the limitation of the application for an ID card or a passport, which is filed only in the district by permanent address, will be dropped. The new ID cards will have a chip that will contain biometric data and electronic identity.

The new ID cards will also be available for electronic signatures. The microchip will be contactless.

The period of validity of the ID cards remains the same - 10 years. There is a change in passports - we will have a choice between a passport with a validity of 5 years and a passport with more pages and a validity of 10 years.

The current personal documents are valid until the date written on them and their earlier replacement will not be mandatory.
