New direct flights will be launched between Sofia and Zagreb from May 1

Croatia’s national air carrier “Croatia Airline” launches new direct flights between Bulgaria and Croatia as of May 1, Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry said on February 21.

The flights between the capitals of the two countries Sofia and Zagreb will be three times a week between May and the end of October 2020. Tickets are already on sale online.

The launch of the new direct flights is a result of the visit of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Bulgaria Ekaterina Zaharieva to Zagreb on October 18, 2019. The topic was one of the main topics on the agenda of her talks with Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman.

In the Bulgarian Embassy in Zagreb, the airline management confirmed that, depending on the passenger traffic and financial indicators, a possible extension of the flight schedule for the winter period next year is being considered.

The air flights are expected to further intensify the flow of tourists between the two countries. Some 42,283 Bulgarians visited Croatia in 2019, which is an increase of 16.7% compared to the previous year. In 2019, Croatian tourists in Bulgaria were by 31.1% more - 29 270 people.
