More and more foreigners enjoy Bulgarian folk dances

More and more foreigners dance in amateur folk groups for Bulgarian folklore. Some of them participated in the festival "Folklore Spring" in the village of Tserovets in the town of Svishtov, North Bulgaria, on the Danube river. The uneven beat and the special sound of musical instruments appear to be magical for the American Jeffrey Stratton and the English Jackie Cole.

The violinist Jeffrey Stratton comes from California to live with the Bulgarian Svetla. He literally fell in love when he heard Bulgarian traditional music for the first time and joined folk group "Zdravets".

"I dance because I like Bulgarian folk dances, there is such a thrill in these dances, they are like a nice old wine. The rhythm, the instruments, there is a great charm in all this, here everybody knows everything about everyone, people enjoy drinking rakia (grape brandy), eating salad and bread. It is great!, he says.

On the stage of the Folklore Festival in the village of Tserovets, our team met Jackie Cole from Nottingham. She is also fascinated by Bulgarian folklore music.

"Rhythm, harmony is very different from our traditional music, but I feel them in my heart, my whole family dances", she said.

More than 5,000 dancers from different parts of the country played at the Folklore Festival.
