The monks from the monastery “Blagoveshtenie” (Annunciation) in the village of Kopilovtsi, near Kuystendil refused to adjust the clock to the daylight saving time. They say it is not a whim, but a requirement of the canon.
According to the abbot of the monastery, archimandrite Kasiyan, moving the clock an hour ahead has an adverse effect on people’s health and results in disbalance and lack of harmony between the creation and the creator. Daylight saving time is not acceptable for the monks because of the church feasts too.
According to Father Kasiyan, people’s biological clock maintains steadiness and constancy throughout bodily routines and is disrupted by the unnecessary moving of the clock. The monk adds that the summer time also affects farming in the monastery complex.
Father Kasiyan says that the clock in the monastery has never been switched to summer time and conscientious Christians celebrate theirs feasts at the same time as the confraternity of monks do.
