The Council of the European Union, by common accord with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, on 7 July, appointed Mariya Gabriel as the new commissioner for digital economy and society, the Council reported.
The appointment of the third Bulgarian EU commissioner takes effect immediately, and applies for the remainder of the current term of office of the Commission which ends on October 31, 2019, the statement said.
