GRECO: Bulgaria implemented 16 of 19 recommendations on prevention of corruption

Council of Europe anti-corruption body GRECO in its annual report for 2019 concludes that Bulgaria has implemented a total of 63.2% of the 19 recommendations under the 4th evaluation round, which is focused on prevention of corruption in respect of members of parliament, judges and prosecutors, Bulgaria’s ministry of foreign affairs said on June 3.

Four of these recommendations were for prevention of corruption in respect of MPs, nine in respect of judges and six in respect of prosecutors.

The overall assessment for Bulgaria is that it has fulfilled a total of sixteen of the nineteen recommendations. As regards MPs the full implementation is 50%, as regards judges - 55.6%, as regards prosecutors - 83.3%.

Bulgaria is among the countries with very good indicators of compliance with the recommendations, which is proof of the efficiency of the efforts made by the country.

Finland and Norway report 100% compliance with all recommendations, Great Britain - 87.5%, Sweden - 75%, Estonia - 73.7%, Latvia and Slovenia with 68.8% and 66.7% respectively.

The annual report of the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) to the Council of Europe for 2019 provides information on the activities of the group and the implementation of its recommendations by its member states.

In October 2020, representatives of the organization are scheduled to visit Bulgaria in connection with the 5th evaluation round.
