Glory is the Bulgarian Submission for the Oscars

The film “Slava”("Glory") by directors Petar Vulchanov and Kristina Grozeva is the Bulgarian submission for an Oscar for the Best Foreign Language film. The title ranks among the most successful from the new Bulgarian films. The premiere was at Locarno Film Festival in 2016. The story is about a railway trackman who found millions of money on the tracks, but instead of taking the cash for himself and handed them to the police.

The film received a special prize and 19 awards from the most prestigious cinema forums. “Glory” closed the sixth season of BNT 1’s Traveling Summer Cinema.

A seven-member committee, chaired by Prof. Alexander Grozev, chose the title among 10 films that meet the requirements of the European Film Academy. The first places in the ranking were won by "Glory" with 14 points and "Bezbog" (“Godless”) with 10 points.

“Glory” is a Bulgarian-Greek drama film written and directed by Kristina Grozeva and Petar Vulchanov. The cast includes Stefan Denolyubo, Margita Gosheva, Kitodar Todorov, Milko Lazarov, Georgi Stamenov, Ivan Savov, Mira Iskarova, Hristofor Nedkov and others.

Story: a railway trackman finds millions of money on the rails tracks and hands the cash to the police authorities. The state awards him with a new watch, which turns out to be fake. The Ministry of Transport's PR department loses his old “Slava” ("Glory"), branded watch, which is a family relic. The trackman goes in a desperate battle to get back the old "Glory" and dignity.

Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov graduated from the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts and are members of the European Film Academy. They co-authored the films Emergency Landing, Rivers Without Bridges, Jump (nominated for the European Film Awards - 2013), "Lesson" (Winner of more than 33 International Film Shows).

Another film with Bulgarian participation is included In the Oscar contest for foreign language film this year: the co-production "Requiem for Mrs. Y." (Serbia, Bulgaria, Macedonia) proposed by Serbia, the National Film Center said.
