GERB PG Leader Tsvetanov: Bulgaria will not join the UN Global Migration Pact

The Coalition Council decided Bulgaria would not join the Global Migration Pact, GERB Parliamentary Group leader, Tsvetan Tsvetanov; Finance Minister, Vladislav Goranov and MEP Angel Dzhambazki said on 12th of November.

At its regular meeting, the Coalition Council of the ruling parties discussed topics such as the Global Migration Pact, protests across the country, the cost of Third Party Liability insurance and the introduction of the bonus-malus system in motor vehicle insurance.

After the end of the meeting, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, commenting on the protests from yesterday (11th of November) said that everyone has the right to express opinion in a democratic state like Bulgaria, but that it should be done within the framework of the law. In his words yesterday, there were provocations by some protesters against people who wanted to go home and attempts by certain circles in the country to direct people's dissatisfaction through political speeches and escalate tensions.

Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov said he had explained to the Prime Minister and the other participants in the meeting that there is no debate about raising the price of Third Party Liability insurance up to BGN 1,000. He also said that he would continue to work on refining the texts in the Financial Supervision Commission's regulation for the introduction of the bonus-malus system. According to Goranov, the increase in the tax for old cars due to the inclusion of an environmental component will be between BGN 6 and 10 per year, which, according to him, is not such a financial burden given Bulgaria's attempt to implement environmental clean air policies.

Vladislav Goranov, Minister of Finance: I briefed the coalition partners and the Prime Minister on the factual situation regarding the main topics related to the dissatisfaction of the Bulgarian citizens in the recent days. I informed them that the price of BGN 1000 for Third Party Liability is not on the agenda, and such a topic is speculation, which only aims to create public tension.

The Coalition Council decided that Bulgaria should not join the UN Global Migration Pact, given the "fears and concerns of responsible circles in the country", as they said. This has satisfied the coalition partners from IMRO.

Tsvetan Tsvetanov, Chair of GERB PG: The position that the Bulgarian government will have is not to join the UN Global Migration Pact, led by a decision that we think is right at the present time, judging the behaviour and positions of other responsible factors in the country.

Angel Dzhambazki, MEP: This document would be threatening the national interest and today's decision is extremely good for Bulgaria.

On Wednesday, the National Assembly is debating the global pact on migration.
