Former mayor of Mladost, arrested for bribe-taking, will remain in custody

The Appellate Specialised Criminal Court on 5th of July ruled that the former mayor of Sofia’s district of Mladost, Desislava Ivancheva, will remain in custody, thus confirming the order of the first instance court.

A week ago, the court dismissed Ivancheva's request for a lighter measure of detention, her motives being poor health. Ivancheva, along with the other detained in the corruption affair in Mladost Municipality - former deputy mayor Bilyana Petrova, was admitted to the prison hospital.

Desislava Ivancheva has been in custody since April 17, on charges that Petrova, who was dismissed from the post of deputy mayor during in custody and Petko Dyulgerov, the former regional mayor of Mladost, forced businessman Alexander Vaklin to give them 70 000 euros to get permission for construction in "Mladost". Both were arrested in central Sofia.

In its ruling, the Appellate Court today noted that, following a proper analysis of the evidence, and hearing the parties' arguments, it found that the appealed decision of the Specialized Criminal Court was correct and lawful.

The ruling is final and is not subject of appeal.
