Approximately 75,500 students will start school for the first time.
As part of the tradition, the beginning of the new school year is marked with the ceremonial bell-ringing, children bringing flowers to teachers and festivities.
More than 180 first-grade students went the largest school in the south Bulgarina city of Kardzhali and the district "Petko R. Slaveikov", where 1,680 students will study this year. First-graders in the Kardzhali district are around 1,300.

A total of 7,693 students are enrolled in the municipal schools in the city, with the first
graders for the school year 2017/2018 being 769 children divided into 35
classes.
The official opening of the school year in "Hristo Smirnenski" Primary School in the South Bulgarian city of Haskovo. 2143 first-graders are expected to cross the thresholds of the schools in the district.
Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova attended the opening of the new school year at the 5th primary school "Ivan Vazov" in Vitosha region.
In the city of Dobrich, North-East of Bulgaria, the new school year was officially opened with the performance of Dobrudzha folklore dance studio (main artistic director: Stoyan Gospodinov at the St. Cyril and St. Methodius University in Dobrich). 707 first graders from Dobrich will hear the school bell for the first time, and everyone received a gift from the municipality for their first school day - a set of notebooks.
