Fire at Dunarit military plant has been extinguished

The fire, which broke out around midday on September 27 at Dunarit military plant in the city of Rousse (Northern Bulgaria), was extinguished. No casualties were reported.

All workers were evacuated. The school and kindergarten in the nearby village of Nikolovo and the town of Martin were evacuated too.

There is no evidence of air pollution in the area.

The fire started from an explosive mixer. At that time, there were 10 people in the TNT workshop. All 700 workers at the plant were immediately evacuated. 5 firefighting teams were deployed at the scene. The premises burnt partially, only the western part. The workshop was inspected with a drone with a thermal camera. The temperature in it dropped to 30 degrees Celsius. The firefighting service is adamant that there is no risk of explosion.

The extent of the damage caused by the fire is not clear yet, because no one is allowed to enter the factory within the next 24 hours. The roof of the workshop from where the fire started was definitely destroyed. Workers will be able to return to work as early as Monday.

A mobile eco-inspection station was placed in the centre of the neighbouring village of Nikolovo. It has not detected air pollution at the moment.
