Evacuated people, flooded streets and buildings after downpour in Dobrich

Two people were evacuated in the North-eastern Bulgarian city of Dobrich because of a powerful storm that broke out last night. One of them is the wife of 62-year-old Suleiman Ifraim, who died in the big flooding in 2014.

The disabled woman experienced the nightmare for the second time last night. She is temporarily accommodated in the shelter at the Holy Trinity Church, but the conditions there are unsuitable for people with mobility problems and she has to return to her flooded home. The 65-year-old woman hopes the municipality will provide her with suitable housing.

Firefighters pumped water away from 15 buildings in Dobrich and in the town of Tervel. Alerts for flooded places continue to arrive today, July 8.

All firefighting teams were working at full capacity because of the thunder storm, accompanied by hail..

Chief Inspector Tihomir Katrandzhiev, Head of the Firefighting and Rescue Department at the Regional Directorate - Dobrich: Flooded streets, lots of water, lots of signals from citizens, everyone was worried about their property and their lives. In two places we have evacuated two citizens - one woman and one man.

Firefighters also cleared fallen trees on the national road network. Fortunately, no one was injured.
