EU-Western Balkans Summit Ended, Final Document to Be Signed

The EU-Western Balkans summit ended. It will be followed by an official lunch of the leaders and signing the final document.

The document is expected to contain a reaffirmation of the irrevocable European perspective of all the Western Balkan countries, but with the explicit condition for reforms. They must be primarily in the sphere of rule of law and active fight against corruption and organized crime.

A number of annexes to this final declaration will be signed, related to one of the most important priorities of the Bulgarian Presidency in this direction, namely projects in infrastructure, digital, transport and energy. Projects for which the EU confirmed its willingness to finance together with the so-called "hybrid financing" by the financial institutions: the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and also the European Investment Bank.

The most important topics that were discussed today, as well as last night, were in two aspects. On one hand, the situation in the Middle East and the situation after Trump's decision to end the agreement with Iran, the consequences for Europe, for European companies working in Iran.

All 28 leaders have declared their unity that they will continue to implement the accord if Iran continues to respect it.

On the other hand, another topic was a possible trade war because of Donald Trump's intention to impose duties on steel and aluminum.
