Energy minister advises businesses not to rely only on the power exchange

The parliamentary Energy Committee was expected to address the issue today, July 4, but it was postponed until next week. In the sidelines of the Parliament, Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova pointed out that concerns about the serious rise of electricity prices at the electricity power exchange and potential speculation on the market should be directed to the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission.

According to Petkova, the Bulgarian electricity power exchange is developing well. She recommended that electricity consumers not only rely on the exchange for their daily needs.

What I would advise businesses and small enterprises is to make efforts to seek electricity purchases on the basis of bilateral contracts, Petkova said. This ensures their predictability in terms of electricity costs and greater production sustainability. The day-ahead platform has been set up and it should meet the electricity needs only for certain fluctuations, ie if there is a need for additional amount of energy at some point in time, to go to this platform and buy that amount, she added.
