Emil Koshlukov is the new Director General of Bulgaria’s public service broadcaster, the Bulgarian National Television (BNT). On 5th of July, he was elected after receiving 3 out of 5 votes from the members of the Council for Electronic Media (CEM).Bettina Zhoteva, Rosita Elenova, Maria Stoyanova and CEM Chairperson Sofia Vladimirova voted in favour.

On 4th and 5th of July, the Council for Electronic Media held interviews with а total of 6 candidates who were admitted to that stage of the selection procedure. They presented their management concepts and answered questions from the members of the media regulator.

In the presentation of his management concept, Koshlukov said that he opts for modernisation of the public service broadcaster. He believes that BNT should be rehabilated to solve its financial crisis and to no longer allow such deficits in the future. He believes the public broadcaster should show transparency in spending money, such as providing budget information to the CEM, regular reports to the parliamentary budget committee and the Ministry of Finance. He also pointed to the establishment of a Programme Board to review the whole programming scheme of the brioadcaster.

Emil Koshlukov took part in the final stage of the competition for the post with five other candidates: Sasho Yovkov, Nikola Todorov, Yavor Simov, Sasho Dikov and Stoil Roshkev.
