A fine of BGN 300,000 was imposed on “Montupet” French car parts plant in Bulgaria’s city of Rousse, on the Danube river, due to established air pollution in November 2016, the Regional Environment Protection Inspectorate announced on 25th of May.
The production activity of the plant is related to the use of resins and hardeners that cause unpleasant odours in the air.
There are 108 ventilation shafts sealed in one of the Montupet halls.
On 24th of May, the local environment protection officials received 17 complaints from residents about a sharp smell of bakelite and chemicals in the neighbourhoods of Zdravets, Rodina and Yalta. The automatic measuring stations have not registered exceedances of the monitored air quality indicators.
