Deputy PM Karakachanov has family association with arrested Bobokovi brothers

Bulgaria’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, Krassimir Karakachano, on June 2 confirmed he is the best man of one of the recently arrested Bobokovi brothers, but denied unregulated contacts with them. He said he was the best man of Plamen Bobokov, but denied he had benefited in any way from this relationship.

The two brothers. Plamen and Atanas Bobokovi, were arrested last week along with Deputy Environment Minister Krassimir Zhivkov, facing charges of involvement in an organized crime group for illegal import and processing of hazardous waste.

Deputy PM Karakachanov is also the godfather of Plamen Bobokov’s children. He explained that their contacts were limited to family events.

Karakachanov described the two brothers as hard-working and enterprising people who started their business from scratch.

The money they earned was not thrown for yachts and planes, but was invested in expanding production and creating new jobs. What exactly the prosecution means is not my job to guess. The state prosecution has some data or suspicions about something, it remains to be seen, he said.
