Coronavirus: Total number of cases in Bulgaria rises to 503

The total cases of coronavirus confirmed in Bulgaria are 503. Seventeen have died, the national task force said on April 4. The latest 3 cases from this afternoon were confirmed in Sofia, one in Stara Zagora and one in Bourgas.

192 of the Covid-119 cases are in hopsitals for treatment. 26 of them are in intensive care.

In terms of the overall number, 287 of the registered cases are men, 216 are women. The average age of the cases is 47.

The total number of medical staff who tested positive is 23.

The cases in the districts in the country affected by the coronavirus are as follows: Blagoevgrad – 15; Bourgas – 24; Varna - 24; Veliko Turnovo – 4; Vidin – 2; Vratsa – 1; Gabrovo – 2; Dobrich – 11; Kardzhali – 8; Kyustendil – 7; Lovech – 2; Montana – 18; Pazardzhik – 10; Pernik – 6; Pleven – 9; Plovdiv – 29; Rousse - 1; Silistra - 2; Sliven – 6; Smolyan – 13; Sofia 298; Stara Zagora – 5; Haskovo – 2; Shumen – 4.

Speaking at the daily briefing in the morning on April 4, the head of the national task force, Prof. Dr. Ventsislav Mutafchiyski said: We urge all Bulgarian citizens not to accept Easter and Palm Sunday as holidays. It's not a holiday time! Don't make bookings in hotels, don't go to church, because that's where you may get infected! Stay home. There is no need to go anywhere, and it is not allowed, he added.

Out of the 21 new cases registered earlier during the day, 17 were admitted to intensive care in hospitals in Sofia.

34 people have recovered.

One of the cases confirmed in the past day is a one year old baby in Dobrich, who has laryngitis. The condition of the 4-year-old child from Veliko Turnovo, who is hospitalized in Sofia, is stable.

There is an interesting case in Bourgas with a 34 year-old man from Nessebar, who returned from Bansko ski resort on April 1st.

Regarding the MRF MP Hassan Ademov, who tested positive for the virus, the task force said that he most likely contracted the virus while making a donation in one of the areas affected by the disease.

Another MP infected with the coronavirus, Dr. Daniela Daritkova of GERB, examined one of the first coronavirus patients registered in Smolyan. Most likely this is how she contracted it, despite all the precautionary measures, explained Prof. Dr. Mutafchiyski and emphasised that the medical professionals are exposed at a high risk.
