Coronavirus: Emergency ward in Yambol closed after nurse tested positive

After it was established that a nurse from the local hospital in the south Bulgarian city of Yambol tested positive for coronavirus, the admission to the Emergency Ward of the hospital on May 19 was suspended for 24 hours.

The 24-hour disinfection of the emergency department at the hospital has begun. The emergencies are already being redirected to another hospital, "St. John of Rila" in Yambol, and if there are not enough doctors and specialists, the regional hospital is ready to provide assistance and help colleagues.

There are 4 new cases confirmed in the district over the past 24 hours, including the nurse. There are 8 people, who have recovered.

Early in the morning it became clear that a patient with very severe symptoms of coronavirus was admitted to the Emergency Department of the district hospital.

Valentin Valchev, Deputy Director of the district hospital "St. Pantaleymon" explained that the temporary closure is due to the fact that the team of the Emergency Department has an employee who tested positive for coronavirus and according to the provisions of the Regional Health Inspectorate in Yambol, the ward must close for 24 hours for thorough disinfection. All authorities have been notified. We are not closing the hospital, only the emergency department. We are all available, here in the wards, at work, when needed, we will help each other, he said.

The hospital in Yambol has sought methodological assistance from the National Coronavirus Task Force to deal with the increasing number of patients with coronavirus infection. Not only in the "Raina Knyaginya" neighbourhood, but there are people infected with the virus in the whole city, in almost all neighbourhoods.

The hospital calls on citizens not to underestimate the situation in the city, to carry out disinfection, to wear protective masks and to observe social distance.
