Charges Pressed against the Manager of Obrochishte Mine

The Prosecutor’s Office in Dobrich pressed charges against the manager of Obrochishte mine on 23rd of November. David Wellings was accused of failing to comply with the time limit for opening of insolvency proceedings.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, evidence has been gathered that the concessionaire of the mine - EvroMangan EAD has been insolvent since June 30. It has liabilities to the amount of BGN 1, 5 million to the National Revenue Agency (NRA) and over BGN 100,000 to private creditors.

The probe into the company began after a series of miners' protests in the spring and the summer over unpaid wages and food vouchers.

Company CEO David Wellings is accused that in his capacity of manager and representative, he failed to ask the court to open insolvency proceedings within 30 days of suspension of payments to the company. This, according the Penal Code, is considered a crime and is punished by imprisonment of up to 3 years or by a fine of up to 5,000 BGN.
