Bulgarias state railway company reports 60% drop in passenger figures

Passenger figures for Bulgarian state railways BDZ were down by 60% for the past two months. It is not yet clear what the losses will be due to the reduced number of tickets sold.

The company services 685 stations a day and covers the transport needs of more than 85% of the population in the country.

All BDZ trains are currently running to their normal timetables. It is still unclear whether there will be special offers in the summer to attract more tourists.

After the restrictive measures were lifted, the number of passengers has slightly increased, BDZ said on May 25. The anti-epidemic measures, however, remain in place. Passengers are required to wear masks and keep physical distance from each other. Mobile teams disinfect in stations on the routes.

Transport sector is one of the most affected economically because of the Covid-19 crisis.
