Bulgaria’s President calls for adoption of European action plan on migration

Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev has called on the government to raise at the next European Council meeting the issue of the adoption of a common Euroepan action plan in the event of sudden increase of migration pressure at the external EU borders, the President’s press office said on October 15.

The President called for that during a meeting with the Prime Minister, government and security officials who briefed him of the outcome of the Security Council meeting at the Council of Ministers, held earlier today.

The head of state had called for such an operational plan from the European Council as early as 2017 and had been discussed at the summit of the presidents of parliamentary republics of the EU held in Athens on October 11, 2019, the President’s press office said

The participants in the meeting at the President’s office discussed the escalation of tensions in the Middle East region, as well as the measures taken by the relevant institutions to protect the border and the safety of citizens.

The representatives of the security services assured that there was no direct threat to the country’s security, but will continue to closely monitor the situation.
