There is a real risk of surging refugee wave, we have strengthened the border as much as possible, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said on February 28.
At an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers with the National Crisis Staff for Combatting Coronavirus, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov touched upon the critical situation along the Turkish-Syrian border.
A statement made today by Turkey is that their border forces will not stop the refugee wave because of sharp opposition between the Turkish army and Syrian pro-government forces.
Borissov ordered the forces of the army, the gendarmerie to be deployed on Bulgaria’s land border. Ships should step up patrols along the maritime border so that they can respond in the event of heavy refugee pressure at the Bulgarian border with Turkey.
Currently, there is a real threat of refugee wave, he said.
