Bulgaria’s PM orders mass testing for coronavirus in Bansko ski resort

Speaking at the daily briefing of the national coronavirus task force on April 8, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said that he had ordered mass testing of residents of Bansko ski resort. The town had been placed under a 14-day quarantine, which ended on March 31 after several cases of coronavirus were registered there.

The deputy head of the task force and director of the centre for contagious and parasitic diseases, Prof. Kantardzhiev explained that the tests are intended to find out if residents of Bansko who had been in contact with the virus, have had mild symptoms or produced antibodies without showing any symptoms.

The Bulgarian mountain resort of Bansko was placed under strict quarantine on March 17 after a 9 year old child from the UK on a ski holiday in the resort tested positive for coronavirus. After that another British tourist tested positive, followed by 3 more cases of local people working in the tourist industry.
