Bulgaria’s Parliament Elected the New Members of the Supreme Judicial Council

Bulgaria’s National Assembly elected on 20th of September a total of 11 members of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) from the quota of the Parliament for the judges’ and prosecutors' colleges.

Six members were elected to the judges' college Dragomir Koyadjikov, Veronika Imova, Daniela Marinova-Marcheva, Boyan Magdalinchev, Boyan Novanski and Stefan Grozdev. They received 160 votes.

Five members were elected to the Prosecutor's College - Svetlana Boshnakova, Gergana Mutafova, Kalina Chapkanova-Kyuchukova, Plamena Apostolova and Yordan Stoev.

The candidates for the SJC from the quota of the Parliament were 18 in total. According to the Constitution, 11 of the members of the SJC are elected by the National Assembly with a two-thirds majority of the MPs. The nominations are required to be lawyers with highly professional and ethical conduct who have at least 15 years of legal experience.

The need to conduct the public procedure is due to the expiry of the term of office of the SJC members from the quota of the Parliament.
