The opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) on 19th of April officially submitted a proposal to reduce MPs' salaries from the current BGN 3,540 to BGN 2,976, as was the remuneration level at the end of the previous Parliament.
BSP leader, Kornelia Ninova, explained that the proposal is for a fixed remuneration for the whole term of office of this National Assembly and should not depend on the increase in the average salary for the country in the budget sector and will not be updated every 3 months.
The BSP also proposes a reduction in the leaves of the MPs and that the National Assembly goes on holiday as all Bulgarians do - only on official holidays.
Without rejecting the possibility of talks in this direction, the general opinion of the other parliamentary groups was that it was populism.
