Building a gas interconnector pipeline with Greece is a priority, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said on 31st of May. At a meeting with the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Kotzias, PM Borisov emphasized that diversification of natural gas sources and delivery routes were of strategic importance.

Borisov noted that the government guarantee for the project was increased from 80 to 110 million euros in the 2016 state budget. Both PM Borisov and Greece’s Foreign Minister expect the interconnector to become operational by mid-2018.

The two also discussed migration flow. Borisov assured that Bulgaria would continue to offer support and solidarity for the countries affected by the migration crisis.

Nikos Kotzias is on a visit to Bulgaria to participate in the meeting of the foreign ministers of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP).
