BULGARIA MARKS EARTH DAY 2014

Bulgaria joins the initiatives dedicated to the international Earth Day, which is on Tuesday, 22 April.

This year’s celebrations slogan is ‘Green Cities’. The green cities campaign aims to mobilize millions of people to take action to create sustainable and healthy environment.

Environmental analysis shows that extreme weather events in Bulgaria will become more intense. The frequency of floods and droughts will increase and therefore all areas of life need to be prepared for management of the risks from climate changes.

Bulgaria’s Ministry of Environment and Water has already started developing a National Strategy on Adaptation to Climate Changes. The document has to be ready by the end of this year.

According to the latest UN report on climate changes, global warming may lead to civil conflicts and food shortages throughout the world.
