British Tourist Shot in Leg after Road Rage near Bulgaria’s Sunny Beach Resort

A British citizen is in hospital after he was shot in leg during a dispute on the road between Sunny Beach and the village of Orizare at the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. This was announced by the District Directorate of the Ministry of interior in Bourgas for FOCUS News Agency on 20 July.

The incident happened around 9.35 in the morning. A dispute occurred between two British cyclists and a 54 year old Bulgarian, driving on the road. The two British cyclists were in the middle of the road and the Bulgarian driver tried to make a remark, telling them they created risky situation for the road traffic, but the argument escalated into a physical fight, during which the Bulgarian went to his car and took his legally owned Makarov pistol. He fired three shots - two in the air and one at the foot of one of the British cyclists.

After that, the Bulgarian man, who is a former member of the military, went to his home in the village of Orizare and called the police to inform them about the incident. Later, the police detained him in his home but was taken to hospital with heart problems.

A witness of the incident reported it on 112. Police officers and a team of Emergency Medical Assistance immediately headed to the place of the incident. The injured tourist was taken to a hospital in the city of Bourgas. He was in a good general condition, pending a surgery. The second British tourist was also taken to hospital for examination.

Pre-trial proceeding has been initiated.
