Bourgas Airport Still Closed after Plane Skid off Runway

An airplane perfoming a charter flight with tourists from Brno, the Czech Republic went off the runway upon landing at Bourgas airport on 18 July. There were 178 passengers on board. They were immediately evacuated. No one has been injured or harmed, including the crew.

The airplane is already pulled to a safe distance. An inspection by a technical team starts began. One of the versions of the incident is a technical malfunction.

It will still be established whether it is a brake failure or something else related to the landing gear.

Landing at and taking off from Bourgas aiport are temporarily suspended because of the incident. There are thousands of passengers at the airport. Tourists are constantly arriving. Many people are waiting outside.

One of the ground hostesses Militsa Penkova, who was present during the evacuation of the passengers, told BNT that they were in a good mood and did not feel anything.

It is expected that the airport will restore operations within 3 hours, if everything is alright. For the time being landings are re-directed to Varna airport (another Black Sea coastal city).

There is no chaos at the airport. Tour operators explain to people what the reasons were for cancelling the flights. There is a queue in front of the rooms for mothers with children because there are many little kids. Water is provided for all passengers, all bars operate at all terminals. People are calm.
