Boom of tourists at Golden Sands and Sunny Beach resorts in Bulgaria

Nearly 50% of the hotels in the Bulgarian seaside resort “Golden Sands”, near Varna, have opened their doors and welcomed their first tourists, while only a week ago the hotels in the resort were empty.

The tourists are mostly from Romania, but those from Germany and Poland are increasing.

Tourists are pleased that hotels comply with high anti-epidemic measures. They say that they are worried about the coronavirus, but they have made research and in Bulgaria they feel safe. The prices are also good, they say.

"There has been an increase in reservations in the recent ten days and our occupancy is on average about 50%. The main packages currently on sale are: Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Romanians who come to us look at the weather and make reservations in the last minute. There are cancellations, but they are not many", commented to BNT Yanitsa Konstantinova, manager of a hotel in Golden Sands resort.

She hopes the season will be good, although it may not be as busy as last year's.

The beaches in the south part of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast were also filled with holidaymakers over the weekend.

However, are the industry optimistic about the summer season, after more than 40 of the big hotels in "Sunny Beach" opened their doors?

Hoteliers at Sunny Beach resort explained to BNT that at the start of the season there were many cancellations, but now they are hopeful, because there was a boom in bookings for the end of July.

Some hotels at Sunny Beach say they are fully occupied and have no vacancies.
