51 new coronavirus cases reported in Bulgaria, total rises to 1488

Fifty one new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in he past 24 hours in Bulgaria after conducting 1156 PCR tests, the head of the national task force, prof. Mutafchiyski said at the morning briefing on April 30.

The total number of coronavirus cases registered in the country is now 1488 in 11 active districts.

Nine new cases were confirmed from the medical professionals.

266 people have recovered. Four died: 2 in Yambol, 1 in Vidin and 1 in Pleven.

Prof. Mutafchiyski also said that yesterday a blood plasma was collected from a cured patient and was applied to a patient ill with covid-19. This morning he was affibrilated and in good condition.

Military Medical Academy in Sofia is the only medical institution that has its own blood bank because of its strategic focus. "We have taken advantage of this to satisfy the demand of many healed volunteers with antibodies and this plasma separation has been carried out," Prof. Mutafchiyski added.

The plasma that was transferred to the Covid-19 patient was fresh, no frozen. This is the first transfusion, so I cannot say what the results would be, he said.

The Chief state Inspector, Prof. Angel Kunchev, commented on the case of the tracking of passengers from the April 26 flight from the Netherlands, on which there were three coronavirus infected persons.

At the time of their arrival, they neither had temperature nor sought medical help, Prof. Kunchev assured.

Within less than 24 hours, with the help of the State Agency for National Security (SANS) and the Ministry of the Interior, we found the addresses of everyone who was on that flight. Yesterday all were found, no problem. Samples were taken from the Bulgarians for testing, he added.

As regards the village of Brestovitsa, Plovdiv district, where an outbreak of coronavirus was identified, the chief health inspector said that 9 more people tested positive and the total number of cases there now is 22.The village is not in lockdown, only the neighbourhood where the infected live have been zoned off. There is no tension among the residents, he added.
