4.6 Magnitude Earthquake Hits near Bulgaria’s Assenovgrad

An earthquake with magnitude 4.6 on the Richter scale was registered near the South Bulgarian town of Assenovgrad in the early hours on 22nd of February.

The epicenter was 2 km away from Assenovgrad and 17 km away from Plovdiv. No casualties or destroyed buildings have been reported, the mayor of Assenovgrad told BNT.

The earthquake was registered at 1:41 on 22nd of February. An aftershock was felt about 2:01, which was weaker and another one was registered at 3:10., at a depth of 4.7 km.

The material damages reported so far include cracked walls, displaced roof tiles and fallen chimneys, BNT reporter Rositsa Koleva, who is at Assenovgrad said.

The earthquake was felt in the city of Plovdiv and on upper floors in Sofia and Blagoevgrad.
