3 months prison sentence for a man from Plovdiv who violated quarantine

A 32 year old man from Bulgaria’s second largest city of Plovdiv was sentenced to 3 month of imprisonment and a fine of BGN 10,000 for braking mandatory quarantine.

K.M. arrived on April 8, 2020 in Sofia on a flight from Berlin, Germany. He specified an address in Plovdiv where he was meant to remain during the mandatory 14-day quarantine.

On April 20, police checked the apartment he specified in the declaration, but was not found there. Neighbours said they had not seen him at the address at all. He was later found to be staying in another apartment where he was also not found because he went out to the shops to buy cigarettes. According to neighbours, he did not observe the quarantine.

The man was prosecuted under anti-epidemic laws in relation to the measures against the spread of Covid-19.

The ruling of the District Court in Plovdiv is final.
