18 of the migrants detained at Kulata checkpoint at the Bulgaria-Greece border signed plea agreements with the Bulgarian Prosecutor’s Office. They pleaded guilty. Most of the plea agreements are for 6 months conditional deprivation of liberty and fines of 100 BGN each.

The migrants will be subject to extradition to Greece, from where they attempted to cross into Bulgaria. Most are from Iraq and Syria, trying to reach Germany.

The control and security at the border with Greece continue to be strengthened. 60 military personnel from Blagoevgrad unit have been deployed to the border and jointly with the border police carry out patrols.

Bulgaria’s border police said on 30th of May that no other groups of migrants were detained in the past two days. However, the residents from the villages in the region of Kulata border crossing say they are afraid of a possible refugee wave and insist that the strengthened security measures remain permanent.
