14-day quarantine for travel from Greece & Serbia to Bulgaria lifted from June 1

We have agreed with Greece to lift the requirement for 14 day quarantine upon entering Bulgaria for business, family, diplomatic, humanitarian and transport travel. The same has been agreed with Serbia, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said on May 19 after a quadripartite meeting initiated by him with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Romanian Prime Minister Ludovic Orban. The video conference was also attended by the ministers of foreign affairs, of interior, health, transport and tourism of the four countries.

With Romania, as the Romanian government is in a process of resignation, we hope that they will make a decision that is in line with the decisions we have made with the three countries, so that we can lift the 14-day quarantine requirement, which is hampering a lot of work at the moment, Borissov said.

There will be a simple declaration, which will be filled in by the people when crossing the borders. They will be required to fill in their three names, the filed "I have no symptoms" and "I am familiar with the epidemic situation".

These are declarations-consent that the persons are informed about the situation, that they are aware of the risk that staying on the territory of the country, if they get sick and quarantined, they are aware of all the conditions and measures, said Transport Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov.

Zhelyazkov informed that as of May 25, the quarantine requirement for all lorry drivers entering the country, as well as the bus drivers, will be lifted.

From June 1, we plan to fully re-open the restaurants, Borissov added. In Greece, there is a decision to re-open indoor restaurants from June 15. All four countries are acting in the same way, he added.

Border workers from Bosilegrad have been allowed to enter Bulgaria without the requirement for quarantine since two weeks ago, added Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva. From June 1st, when the restrictions with Serbia fall, they will enter only with a declaration.

Bulgaria is currently actively talking about easing the travel restrictions with Austria and Germany. Due to the interest of the chambers of commerce, there are also many factories in Bulgaria that have ordered machines and engineers must come to install them. Bulgaria is also the most popular destination for tourism for Germans, Borissov said in response to a question from BNT.

The most important thing now is to get out of the recession that the coronavirus has brought to us. The most important thing at the moment is for every job, every lev, euro, dollar to be brought to the country and for people to work and receive a salary, Borissov added.

The Prime Minister said that the losses for the Bulgarian economy for the last two months are because of lack of revenues. At the moment they are 3.5 billion.

"In mid-June, we will know whether we will be able to emerge by ourselves or whetthar will may need financial assistance by making a loan," he added.
